Default What I consider the problem in HoH.

-The actual people of a team are most important
-Rank doesn't prove much
-Iway is getting really old
-What is the next HoH build fad?

I'm learning a lot from these posts, and hope you veterans continue to respond.

And for all you haters out there, I appreicate your input as well, so here's something to quote: I was on GWTV today against a 100+ guild, and won. No Opposing party [WTF] dominated me shortly thereafter.

Well I am by no means a HOH veteran but, I believe some people read too much into what a number means in gw. Personally with my experience(only rank 1) I have been in rank 3+ teams that were totally obliterated, but when I formed my own group we did a decent job.

If you can keep this thread from derailing into YET ANOTHER thread about the evils of IWAY, it will stay open.

Yeah, I find that a sensible leader with basic organization skills really helps a team do well and stay together in HA. You're right to say the obsession with numbers is gettign a little rediculous, because it is. I know we've all had our share of bad noob experiences, but rank doesn't prove smarts or stupidity, and i think some people are starting to realize that.
As I play more and more, you start to learn about people, they learn about you, and you can probably form an effective group out of friends and acquaintances. The problem, of course, is getting to that point...

While the actual people of a team are the most important factor, you should not ignore other factors. 8 of the prebuilt spell slashers, even run by iQ, will not hold halls. The build, and the skills used in that build, are a very important factor, one that I would say is close behind player skill at running that build.

That's old news Though most rank 3 players do know the maps, and while some players less than rank 3 will as well, those with 0 fame probably have no clue what is going on. That does not mean that you should avoid taking them, they need to learn somehow, but players with rank do have knowledge of the layout and plans behind many HA maps than those without, more than you can gain by looking at a map on a fansite.

During the beta preview weekend, a build called, pardon the language, "assway", was used a bit. Replace the 4 warriors in iway with assassins, and viola, a build that uses the new classes and kills some people. It will probably hang around for a week, maybe less, then people will go back to iway for the stronger armor and damage.

I'll quote this anyway, though I do not hate. My guild runs two kinds of groups, one group consists of the "hardcore" PvP members of the guild and these members tend to do the rated GvG. The other group is a come-one-come-all thing for tombs. We run odd, strange builds with some players who have little to no experience playing PvP. As you can imagine, we get rolled over often like that. I would not be surprised to learn that many other guilds do something similar to this as well, including rank 100+ guilds.

what this thread is really deteriorating into is byron bragging about beating top 100 guilds in HoH based on his "revolutionary" "good players build"

let me give you a peak into PvP, GvG and HoH are a lot different, many guilds are great at GvG and are not very good at HoH or do not enjoy HoH and don't play that much or Both. You only get ranked on GvG so get over beating top 100 guilds. If you want to have good teams play with the same players and keep a large friends list. And stop bragging about beating top guilds on TV no one wants to hear it

I remember when I got all excited at beating EW on Courtyard once, back when I was <R3. Most people who have played a lot of PvP-no they won't really get too excited about beating someone on TV. But I remember that when I was new, beating a top ranked guild, no matter what the state of their halls team, was a pretty good feeling.

Don't spoil his innocence! He will grow to be crusty and cynical in time yet.

In my guild if we got the best team online we GvG, otherwise its tombs and for some reason we never do well in tombs. Sometimes we run the GvG build in tombs but we always lose at the alter or relic run lol.

This also works in vice-versa... builds good in hoh.. not so good in gvg..

No disrespect my friends, but if I didn't brag, the replies to any thread would be few and far between. Hate breeds response, and I'm willing to take that hate as long as the advice keeps coming. Don't take any of my gloating to heart, please.

The only build that works well in both is the 2 warrior 2 surger build, and ranger spike and maybe IWAY.

Other than that then yeah your right unfortunately
